Andreas was a strong middle distance young runner representing club and country throughout his teenage years clocking impressive times both in the 1500m and 5000m. Endurance running was his passion. He was destined to have a career in the sport. However, it was during his first degree, whilst researching hormonal changes during exercise, which brought a completely different perspective to his understanding of the effects of exercise.
The research was clear; participation in strength and power sports and strength activities elicited far better health benefits than endurance sports did. The contrast was of such significance that Andreas could not ignore it, even though he knew that he had a promising career in endurance sports. Consequently, Andreas left the sport and instead participated in strength and power sports and activities. He continued his studies and alongside research in sports performance he focused on researching health and longevity.
Andreas did a 4 year extensive degree in exercise sciences with central areas of study and research being biomechanics and kinesiology, exercise physiology, pedagogy and psychology, optimal recommendations and exercise prescriptions of strength training and its application for a wide spectrum of populations varying from a professional 100m sprinter to a centenarian who wishes to regain his strength and independence.
Andreas then wished to further expand his knowledge on exercise application for the older population so completed a postgraduate degree in exercise physiology at Brunel University in which he extensively studied and conducted research in sarcopenia, the decline of lean tissue, and bone density and optimal recommendations and application for the prevention and reversal of loss of lean tissue and strength and the maintenance of bone density with aim the avoidance of osteopenia, osteoporosis and bone fractures. Today, Andreas continues to study and learn, gaining industry lead qualifications in strength training and nutrition.
