Participation in strength and power sports and activities elicits far better health benefits than endurance sport and activities do. Furthermore, endurance activities like long distance steady state running are far more taxing on our body than strength and power activities are. Endurance activities can cause excessive wear and tear on joint structures, elevate hormones that can cause havoc to our health and reduce the body’s ability to make other vital hormones. Also, endurance activity can also play a role in lowering our metabolic rate, reducing muscle and increasing fat, chronic inflammation, impaired digestion and mental function and weakening our immune system.
This does not mean that we cannot enjoy running, as running can be performed in more ways than just long distance steady state running.
At movement efficiency we have devised a running program that is not only far more exciting than steady state running, but can also elicit great health benefits. Unlike long distance steady state running, which predominantly only utilises the oxidative pathway for energy, our running programs utilise all three energy systems - the phosphagen, glycolytic and oxidative energy systems, albeit with emphasis on the phosphagen and glycolytic energy systems, to great effect. With the emphasis being on utilising the phosphagen and glycolytic energy systems, rather than the oxidative energy system, our running program, amongst other, results in the increase of important anabolic hormones and the decrease of the catabolic, catastrophic, when overrun, stress hormone, cortisol. In addition, emphasis on utilising the phospahgen and glycolytic energy pathways rather than the oxidative pathway, which is the pathway predominantly utilised during steady state distance running, results in the increase of lean tissue - muscle mass, strength and the increase of our metabolic rate.
In order to utilise the targeted energy pathways our running programs entail 20 metre to 80 metre sprints, 100 metre to 600m intervals and hill runs. All participants work together, however, each participants running prescription is tailor made for the individual. Adjustments in variables such as recovery time, repetitions, and volume are made to achieve each individuals set target.
At Movement Efficiency we screen for any deficiencies in your running mechanics. If any, we discuss them with you and advise on how they can be corrected with aim to improve your running efficiency and to reduce the risk of potential injury.

From then on the first session would be purchased as a single session so that you can have a better idea of the product and get to know the coach before committing to a monthly subscription.
